Exa landing page audit
Jul 17, 2024
Okay so Exa is building the Google for AI. They recently raised a $17 million Series A round on July 16, 2024. Exa is different than your other search engines like Google, Perplexity etc.
Exa is building a tool that allows AI models to perform a web search, but with an AI-native twist. So what they are doing is building a machine learning model trained to natively understand links rather than words and sentences.
If an LLM completes a sentence by generating the most probable next word, Exa does the same but with links.
Let's take a look at their landing page & check it out.
This is their hero - looks neat. Clearly they seem to be targeting companies to try out their API (making it a primary button) while the secondary button is on the B2C side. The headline is not very clear - the Search engine for AI really doesn't tell me a lot tbh.
The sub headline should just explain what Exa does in simpler terms - like how they have built a ML model that goes on the internet & understands & generates links rather than words, which adds another layer to search.
This is a very cool problem statement to show why Exa exists - really important to show the problem especially when you're disrupting the status quo in a massive way.
And then it shows the use cases for Exa - you can RAG over the entire web. Pretty cool. (Would be cool to see what companies are using Exa to build RAG Applications over the internet). The arrow can say lead them to case studies of companies building chatbots using Exa.
The next use-case is also pretty cool - the header is really cool.
And then it ends with another cool use case (3 in total now) on how users can train data using Exa.
Then it shows an example of a use-case of how it works & how it's different from Google. This is really important & helps users visualise the AHA moment for Exa.
Then it adds a feature section TLDR for a quick overview
And ends with a CTA:
Final Thoughts:
The headline is powerful af — and ends with 2 CTA options for users to try out. All in one, Exa has done a relatively good job of explaining what the product does. In certain sections (like the hero), the messaging could probably be a bit improved but other than that, it looks sleek & professional.
With their recent PR coverage, I bet their landing page got a lot of traffic — hope it got a lot of signups as well!
If you work at a startup & need a second sßet of eyes on your landing page in 48 hours, book your roast!
